Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

The mission of the SWIU Department of Nursing is to educate and prepare nursing leaders for practice in a diverse and changing health care environment and to advance the profession and improve health care through transition management, research and scholarship .To fully realize this mission, the curriculum for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing combines clinical research and leadership skills to prepare graduates for roles in today’s complex health care delivery system. The baccalaureate-nursing program is a combination of nursing sciences, supporting sciences and general education.

General Information:

LICENSURE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must have completed a Registered Nurse program and be licensed to practice in the state of California.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT
In order to become eligible to graduate with a BSN degree, a total of at least 130 semester units must be successfully completed. All courses required by the Department of Nursing must be completed with a grade of 2.0 (C) or better. A minimum of 45 semester units must be designated as upper division course work.

LENGTH OF THE PROGRAM:

This is determined by the number of transferable units and successful completion of all the required course work. The student must complete all the nursing courses within five years from the date of admission into the Nursing Department.

Nursing Course Requirements:

Prior to beginning the senior level nursing courses, NUR 40 - Introduction to Roy Adaptation Model (4 units) must be taken with an achievement of a letter grade of "C" or better. This requirement will be waived for students who graduated within the last five years from a college/university using the Roy Adaptation Model.

14) Bioethics (upper division - 3 units)
15) Philosophy or Religious Studies (6 units)
Total: 56-58 semester units
